Position Summary

Reporting to Service Operations Manager, this is an operational management role in all areas relating to Training department.   The key focus includes: delivery, development and evaluation of guide dog training; people supervision and development of trainer team,  implementation of departmental management processes ensuring an effective and efficient day-to-day running and attaining performance index and targets.  The day to day management of training team involves skills-up on technical expertise and also collaboration with administration team and puppy walker team.

Position Responsibilities and Accountabilities

Core responsibilities

  • To lead and support team members in accordance with their job duties and expected performance level
  • In collaboration with other members of the operation team, monitor and support the breeding, intake, assessment and matching of dogs
  • To provide technical expertise, advice, training, coaching and leadership of the operation team
  • To develop departmental management process, documentations and reports in line with organisational policies and priorities
  • To contribute to the planning, development and delivery of guide dogs services, as required and within available resources.
  • To ensure breeding, assessment and training guide dogs to the expectations determined by HKSEDS and in line with International Guide Dog Federation standards
  • To undertake IGDF and international standard reviews and contribute towards service development and continuous improvement
  • To maintain and share current knowledge of trends and developments in relation to guide dog services, training techniques, practices, policies and legislation
  • To collaborate with other departments to achieve organisational objectives
  • To comply with organisational policies and procedures
  • To ensure safe work practices are adhered to at all times
  • To act as an ambassador for guide dogs, promoting good public image and supporting HKSED’s strategic direction
  • To perform other duties as reasonably assigned by Manager

Position Requirements and Qualifications

  • Recognised qualification in Seeing Eye Dog Training
  • Bachelor’s degree or its equivalent an advantage
  • 3-5 years of practical experience and sound knowledge in service management
  • Passion to serve visually-impaired community / NGO
  • Update knowledge of Guide Dog Mobility theory and practices, and knowledge of community resources relevant to people with vision impairment
  • Sound knowledge of current philosophy, policies and legislation relevant to Seeing Eye Dogs 
  • Ability to manage the physical demands and inherent requirements of the job and complete the tasks and duties as stated.
  • Strong sense of responsibility and teamwork
  • Excellent interpersonal effectiveness and communication skills 
  • Superior planning and organising skills, coupled with stress management skills
  • Good command in both written and spoken English and Chinese, including Mandarin
  • Well versed with MS-Office Excel, Word, and PowerPoint

Position Summary

Reporting to Puppy Walker Supervisor, the Puppy Walker Assistant assists in the day-to-day operations of the department.  The core responsibilities involve supporting the puppy walker families (volunteers) to well taking care of our puppies.  This includes supporting and monitoring puppy walkers to understand the expectations, guidelines, standards and acquire the knowledge and skills in fostering our puppies.  Other duties of the job include assisting in puppy walker recruitment, supplies despatch and management, reports and documentations, public education events and various tasks as assigned by superiors.

Position Responsibilities and Accountabilities

Core responsibilities

  • To orientate new / experienced puppy walkers on the requirements and expectations in taking care of our puppies.
  • To arrange vaccinations of puppies and support puppy walkers on all health-related issues / enquiries timely and thoroughly.
  • To conduct home visits / care calls / remote support to provide guidance and timely support to puppy walkers.
  • To assist in group training / coaching to equip puppy walkers with skills and techniques to raise our puppies with good home behaviour and social manner.
  • To monitor quality of care by puppy walkers with expected standard and improve by coaching, counselling and/or correcting.
  • To maintain positive relationships with puppy walkers, motivate, counsel and team build puppy walkers as appropriate.
  • To help the In-home care to observe, look after and train puppies when required.
  • To arrange despatch of food / supplements / supplies to puppy walkers at defined frequency and keep proper stock records.
  • To co-ordinate puppy walkers to join seminars, public education and fundraising events.
  • To assist in work planning (weekly plan / monthly plan / yearly plan) to ensure activities are organized with efficient use of resources.
  • To maintain proper dog records, update reports and documentations timely and accurately.
  • To attend staff meetings and project meetings as appropriate.
  • To provide standby support on roster basis and ad hoc emergency support when required.
  • To assist in the recruitment and selection process of new puppy walkers.
  • To assist in breeding of puppies and baby-sitting of puppies when required.
  • To support trainers in the observation and assessment of puppies’ behaviours and temperament when required.
  • To join relevant events, act as presenter in seminars when required.
  • To assist to develop and maintain service programs to strengthen support quality. 
  • To perform other duties as reasonably assigned by Supervisors.

Position Requirements and Qualifications

  • Secondary graduate or above 
  • A love for dogs and with passion to serve visually-impaired community / NGO
  • Service-oriented, action-driven and problem-solving orientation 
  • Effective interpersonal skills and enjoy working with different levels of people
  • Strong sense of responsibility and teamwork
  • Able to make home visits as required
  • Able to accommodate dogs at home when required
  • Able to work flexible hours and on weekends
  • Willing to perform all job-related essential functions.
  • Excellent command in both written and spoken English and Chinese, including Mandarin
  • Excellent command of PC skills including PowerPoint, Excel and MS Word
  • Holder of a valid driving license for Classes 1 & 2 vehicles an advantage
